Spring Break

I can't believe that it is May already! Spring Break went by so quickly, but I enjoyed spending time with my husband and our two daughters. We hung out at Dan Nicholas Park and also went to Tinseltown to see the movie, Rio, which was a great movie. We also visited with family and friends. How was your Spring Break? Did you do anything interesting?

Welcome!

Monday, October 25, was my first day back from maternity leave. I finally got to meet my wonderful students! They made the transition a lot easier for me! We have spent a lot of time getting to know one another, and getting used to new procedures! I have not met with any of my classroom parents yet, but I have chatted with some through email. I look forward to conferencing with parents soon!

The Iditarod Race

We have been learning about the Iditarod dogsled race, held annually in Alaska. The students have done a lot of research on why this race is so important to the people of Alaska, and have even taken several virtual field trips to Alaska to experience this race. We are currently working on an iMovie project to assess what we have learned.

Morning Meetings

This year our school implemented "Morning Meetings." These are meetings held every morning after announcements from 8:05-8:15. We started our morning meetings by bringing in 3 items that would help classmates learn about one another. Last week during our morning meeting, we discussed what we don't like to happen in our class. Students that chose to speak started their comment with, "I don't like it when........". I was very impressed with some of the comments students made without calling another student's name or hurting anyone's feelings. We decided that we are a family, and although we do not always have to agree with one another, we MUST respect one another as classmates.

First week of School

Well, we have the first week of school under our belt! I feel as though the students are beginning to adjust to fourth grade. I have had to make a few new seating arrangements, but that is normal since most of the children have not seen one another since last school year. Overall the students seem enthused about learning all that there is to learn in Fourth grade! During the first week of school, we have read the novel, Because of Winn-Dixie, we are reviewing Place Value in Math, and in Social Studies we have been learning about locating places in North Carolina on a map.
